Highlights
The FDA GRAS Notice Program is a voluntary program that allows manufacturers to notify FDA of their determination that a food ingredient is GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) for its intended use. The program provides FDA with an opportunity to review the safety data supporting the GRAS determination and to make a determination as to whether the use of the ingredient is, in fact, GRAS. The program also provides manufacturers with an opportunity to obtain FDA's concurrence with their GRAS determination, which can help to expedite the regulatory approval process for new food products.
